Nan never met a gnome she didn’t like.
They peer from underneath their pointed hats.
With quirky smiles and dimples on each cheek,
they charm and fascinate her many cats.
The neighbors were aghast at all these gnomes
that seemed to move each night from place to place.
They mystified the children who were shocked
to see the grins and smirks upon each face.
Now Nan, who loved these most unseemly gnomes
had placed them on grand pedestals for show.
She was perplexed when with the morning sun,
the gnomes had disappeared like last year’s snow.

Author Notes
A new family moved into the neighborhood. Soon we noticed gnome figurines appearing on their lawn along with pagodas and scrap metal flowers and animals. Not everyone in the neighborhood was pleased with the addition of these many lawn ornaments. My answer to the situation was to write this little ditty.
