There can be no escape from truthful words,
the brightly coloured verbs of honesty,
absurd is fabrication that affirms—
the moment when there’s loss of dignity.
The traits that damn the day and thwart the night,
when something’s not quite right in what we know,
the light is dim, as we look hard and fight
to realise the truth is not on show.
But some will gloss with words and shine with pride,
and cover up and hide behind a lie,
decide to let a falsehood be their guide,
where withered hearts may shrink, until they die.
Give me your faithful word with firm foundation,
not yarns of black deceitful imitation.
