A Tiny Bit Talented by Y. M. Roger True Story Flash contest entry |
My five-year-old Benjamin was quite precocious. Musically gifted, he already played numerous songs on the piano.** But the thrust of Ben’s talent was singing: whether building Legos or climbing trees, he would belt out songs in an angel’s voice. On a whim, I brought him to audition for the city-wide production of Christmas Carol. Watching those judges’ faces as his Ode to Joy echoed around the auditorium, I cried a mother’s tears of irrepressible pride. After each show without exception, the youngest-ever Tiny Tim graciously accepted praise and autographed programs: “Did you enjoy the show?” “Thanks for coming!” ...... ... . Did I mention precocious?
