From hills of beloved home
Mountains and plains
Young soldiers, faces roan
Horsemen with jingling reins
Muffled hooves on burning sand
Bum-fluff soldiers gave their all
Walers carried the merry band
Into war they rode, some to fall
Posters telling farm boys to join up
Shiny buttons, new uniform and a cup
Born in the saddle from day one
Brave horsemen everyone
Sabres glinting in desert sun
They dug their spurs to Waler's sides
The Turks eveready to cut and run
Our boys turned the tides
Charging the Turks, gunfire cut them down
Walers jumped over the guns, crashing
Many a Turk looked, turned around
Horses squealed, men, fisticuffs bashing
Terrified Turks tried to run into the desert sun
Aussie horsemen won the day, took the wells
The Battle of Beersheba had been won
From boys to men their pride swells

Author Notes
The Battle of Beersheba was to take the wells, as the oasis was the only source of water for the allied troops.
Walers (horses know for their courage and strength) came from New South Wales. The enemy was scared of the horsemen, having never seen horses or men with fire in their bellies. LEST WE FORGET. NOVEMBER 11TH, REMEMBRANCE DAY for all those who died in all wars.
