Overlooked and neglected writing prompt entry

Among a plethora of things ignored,
"Things overlooked and neglected,"
Is, to me, the shocking decrease
In respect for truth; This, I’ve selected.

Nothing new, Shakespeare wrote, “Lord,
Lord, how this world is given to lying,”
But, seems to me we are now reaching
Critical mass: Truth? Who’s even trying?

Most obvious is our formerly once trusted
National news providers. Now, they opine
Rather than report where we expect true,
Fair reporting, so then we our own truth find.

And, the politicians? Dear Lord have mercy!
Never let the facts or truth ruin their spin.
Have they forgotten all the rules and norms
Of representation? What a mess we’re in!

Plus, our schools are now rewriting history
By teaching not what was, but what should be;
Teaching now to shape the children’s thoughts
About our, albeit, imperfect, but great history.

I see restaurant, rest home official reports
Are altered, Little League snack bar theft,
Parents paying for SAT changes and coaches
Give team spots for cash? Any honesty left?

How can we know who or what to believe?
Can we ever again trust what we’ve trusted?
Wish I had the answer or how to change our
Downward spiral. Frankly, I’m just disgusted!
