Fly Away by Sally Law
Flash Fiction contest entry

I heard voices shouting, and rushing all around. The trauma specialists were taking turns pulling me back from death.

My husband and children were in the room, too, calling my name and squeezing my hand. But for some reason, they couldn't hear me say, "I love you."

Plastic tubes and tangled wires draped my body. The heart monitor kept sounding off, sending my nurses into a panic.

I couldn't move--yet, feeling suspended and floating like a feather. My
physical body now the phantom limb that had been severed from soul and spirit.

Peace descended, clothed in angelic light. "Why can't they see the angel?" I wondered. "He's larger than life."

The angel touched my hand and said, "Come with me."

He carried me away to a place more exquisite than anything I'd ever known. A beautiful world set above the clouds.

I was in heaven, wrapped in Jesus's arms.
