Devils I Knew & Devils Anew by Reese Turner
Schooled on Limericks! writing prompt entry

Here we go again, “Back To School”!
Never my best day, as a rule;
Struggled with math, history,
Worse, made me read poetry
And that’s why I now write like a fool!

Schools today makin' wussified youth
By "political correctness” - uncouth;
A trophy for all -
No more brutal dodge ball!
And NEVER teach them the whole truth!

There once was a witch named Michelle;
Changed school food to taste like hell!
Kids threw most of it back,
Brought their own in a sack,
Her great food idea just didn’t sell!

Writing Prompt
It's that time of year... back to school! So, to help cheer up those of us who might need that extra smile to happily get back into the routine, your challenge is to write a limerick poem [it can be up to THREE stanzas = three limericks] about school. It can be about a personal experience, it can be about a favorite (or feared!) teacher, it can be about the school cafeteria (or the food therein!), it can be generalized, it can be very, very specific - ideas are as limitless as your imagination.... but your goal is to make us laugh! Only one stipulation: keep it clean, people!! :-)

Remember a limerick is a humorous poem consisting of five lines. The first, second, and fifth lines must have seven to ten syllables while rhyming and having the same verbal rhythm. The third and fourth lines only have to have five to seven syllables, and have to rhyme with each other and have the same rhythm. An example is given below (from the famous Edward Lear!)

There was an Old Man with a beard
Who said, 'It is just as I feared!
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!'

Author Notes
Where do I begin to describe my great years in school? Full disclosure: I had no great years in school! Our Senior Yearbook pictured me under "Errors and Omissions". Class reunions? They stopped inviting me. It's a wonder that I have survived... But, real life is sure more fun! BTW: Colors are the Blue and Gray of McCallum High School, Austin, Texas. Go Knights!
