Escape by jusylee72 100 Word Flash Fiction contest entry |
The six-year-old girl hid. "I know you're in there. Come out, come out wherever you are." Her silence answered. "Oh, come on now, I won't hurt you." Her brother's voice spoke. "Don't listen, stay quiet. Breathe through your nose. Remember the poem." Last year he made her memorize it. "Over here, step back, no one near, small crack, squeeze out, neighbor's house." He showed her this shack before he died. Now his voice guided her. "Run free, speak for me." The crack looked larger. Could he have come back before they hurt him? She squeezed through. She ran. She lived.
