Will You Linger Longer? by LisaMay
    Feelings Contest Winner

When dawn prises us apart
with a disapproving glare
in a landscape of rumpled sheets
– will you dare?
Will you linger longer,
partake of coffee, walk awhile?
…show how much you care?

Or was I just a night gone by
to strip in passion’s grip;
our souls, so random, bare
of any lasting hint or glint
to burnish future’s bond?
Perhaps it’s neither here nor there,
but what was it we did share?

Now your hand is resting on the door –
are you to wave goodbye?
Honestly, I need your truth, not a lazy lie.
Speak to my heart before we part:
tell me how it could be.
Shut the door, come back for more,
let’s make another start.

This bloom of youth upon my cheek:
you put it there last night.
My years have passed in solitude
til you shone your tender light
of love upon my private world.
Gladly, warmed, unfurled,
I blossomed with delight.

I could tell with you as well,
a loneliness was there.
Our eyes cannot disguise
that separate hunger deep within:
the one that needs to care –
to feel loved again, forget the pain,
with such a craving thirst.

So stay, remain! There’s much to gain.
Let’s start with breakfast first.
