Words can take you places

you’ll never go

or show you things you’ll never see.

They can paint pictures

in your mind

to look at

long after the actual sighting.

Words can swell a heart

with wonder

but

they can also break a spirit.

It’s more

than the mere utterance --

it’s the intent

of the speaker.

and also the interpretation

of the one

who hears them.

We must be careful

with the power

of words,

for they can be sharper

than swords,

or soothing

to a crippled soul.
