The hospital room was quiet and dark. It smelled of disinfectant and sweat. The body on the bed was still, as if overcome by a deep sleep. I looked at him. He was sitting really close, holding a cold hand between his, his eyes closed. He looked extremely sad and very tired. Older than before... I wanted to hug my husband and comfort him, but my newly-acquired ghostly form stopped me from doing so.
