Big Bill by Willie P. Smith
Ghost poem writing prompt entry

There's a glow behind the tombstone,
Of the man they called "Big Bill."
It appears each night at midnight.
In a place known as Boot Hill.

Bill was a big, mean man,
With a dark, evil side.
No one would admit it,
But they wasn't surprised how he died.

One night a cowboy found him,
Face down in a dusty street.
All his pockets were empty
And his boots were gone from his feet.

A knife was firmly planted,
In the middle of Big Bill's back.
A note was scrawled in the dust,
"Look for me I'll be back."

A light appears behind the stone,
As a warning folks should heed.
He's searching the town, high and low,
For who did the dirty deed.

A ghostly mist and chilling wind
That never seems to still.
As Big Bill continues his vigil,
From his grave atop boot hill.
