A Beach Babe And Her Brothers by LisaMay
Memories writing prompt entry

We’re on the beach when it’s at low tide –
me in the middle, brothers each side.
We’re all lined up for the photograph;
a cheeky smile, a giggle, a laugh.
Dad clicks the snap, we’re all together;
a memory, forever and ever…
before the sun set on their two lives,
now it’s just me, the last who survives.

Our childhoods are the sunniest times
before we embark on adult crimes.
Beaming with joy most innocent
we didn’t know we were different.
All of us came from other mothers –
I was last after both my brothers.
We were adopted by love so deep,
our new Mum and Dad vowed us to keep.

The picture shows us grinning at Dad,
the only father we ever had.
Mum was behind him, fixing our lunch.
After the shot we sat down to munch
on fish and chips then drank lemonade.
All day we had fun, we played and we played.
A photo of our day at the beach –
those days are now gone, beyond our reach.

Author Notes
Authors Note:
As a family we spent many happy holidays at the beach. I was particularly close to my brother, Terry, on the left, which you can see from this photo. We were inseparable, almost like twins. When he was 11, Terry died in an accident. I was 10 when that happened and it devastated me. This photograph of us together is very special to me. My other brother died 3 years ago. He teased me when Terry died and I was never able to forgive him.
