I miss you
Gone Mum by Heather Knight
Mother's Day Poetry Contest contest entry

You sit under that giant window,
Doing nothing.
You have lost time,
Or time has lost you.

You smile like a little girl,
Happier than you've ever been.
You say you saw your parents
Earlier today.

I lie to you
To save you from pain.
I let you live
In your fake past.

I look at you,
I talk to you,
All the time wondering
What has happened to my Mum.

Where has she gone?
She was the one
Who cuddled me,
The one who kept the wolf away.

But life is cruel.
That Mum has vanished.
You are just a shell...
The roles have been reversed.

Author Notes
My Mum is a wonderful woman. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's has robbed her of her very being. She was intelligent, strong, ahead of her times. She was my world. Still is... but now it's different.
