Broken Into Smithereens by Heather Knight |
Emily sat by the window. Her white satin nightgown caressed her smooth skin and her eyes shone at the memories of the previous night. He had kissed her and then... more. He had promised to love her for ever and then... more. On her notebook, she wrote silver words like cobwebs that together painted a picture of the man she loved. Handsome. Charming. Gentlemanly. But Emily was naive. She had not noticed or suspected he was married. Later that day, her brother Austin told her. He didn't know he was breaking her heart. Smithereens. Another beautiful word she could use in her poetry. Poetry that would keep her entertained between her four walls. Because her sadness forced her to become a hermit. To stay upstairs. Forever. Till death.
