A Helical Harmony
Little Poems
: Traces Left by Treischel

Some traces left where we have been,
the petroglyphs of modern men,
by paths that come and go again,
we mark with chisel, chalk, and pen.

Pen to paper, or knife to stone,
Again give messages unknown.
Men will declare their presence shown.
“Been here before, though not alone.

Alone, yet we will take this path,
shown by the marker’s autograph.
Unknown symbols in fool’s behalf,
Stone is the ancient lithograph.

Lithograph note on etched relief’s
behalf may often preach beliefs.
Autograph’s transient motifs,
Path reveals the unique techniques.

Author Notes
Author Notes:

Call it graffiti. signs, markings, or petroglyphs, humans often leave their traces. Frequently. it's to just to say, "I was here, as you are now." Sometimes they are religious. We often do the same in our writings and our books. We leave traces beyond our own mortality.

This poem is a Helical Harmony.
This is a form created by Gungalo.
It has a very complex structure. Here are her instructions:
Start with a beginning, 8-syllable quatrain that is monorhymed. The end rhymes from the first verse are the beginning words for the next verse, in reverse order, which will then have new end rhymes. These end rhymes similarly follow to be the first words of the next verse, and so on until the end. You may write as many verses as you would like, four being the minimum, making sure to end with mono-rhymes. Center align.

I have highlighted the rhymes here to better show the pattern.
This photograph was taken by the author himself on April 23, 2011.
