A foot under the bridge
Reaches below a high 'short' span
Beams rattle in the wind
Above a rabid river
A small rodent like 'animal'
Scurries along a girder
Children playing
Under this crossing
Is more than just taboo
A greasy foothold
Leads the way
Hands, too slow to grasp
Little Billy is in midair
His scream was silent and still
That moment of stillness
Disappeared
Billy's shriek awakened the wind
'Horror' masked his gentle face
Our cries to God fell on deaf ears
Found downstream miles away
The fisherman's eyes, spilling tears
Holding sweet Billy where he lay

Author Notes
Thanks to cakemp55 for the photo. I usually do not write this form of poetry. But we all need a challenge. There are places I played as a child that were dangerous. As long as children have an adventurous Spirit, the may face dangers.
