Her grandma's smile was sweet and kind
as they locked eyes across the hall
Then suddenly she saw her fall
The sound of gunfire hurt her ears
She could not see through all her tears
She crouched and leaned against the wall
Her grandma's smile

While fearing she'd be left behind
she thought she heard her mother call
She recognized her silky shawl
as both their arms became entwined
Her grandma's smile

Author Notes
In honor of all the families that were affected by the tragedy in New Zealand. I read an account of how three small children witnessed the shooting of their father who was trying to protect them. I felt compelled to write this.
