Apocalypse Now by Aussie Flash Fiction contest entry |
Day One: Red moon rising. Stars too close to earth. Saturn crashes into Mars; darkness. Molten lava flows from every volcano. Earthlings run for their lives; turned to pumice.
Day Two: Daylight dark as night. the Giver of Life, the sun has exploded. Across the World earthlings huddle in concrete bunkers. Bunkers prepared so long ago for such an event. Never in history has man been so alone. Above ground, graves have opened from constant tremors. Souls fly free. The Pope readies to leave Vatican City as the hills run red with lava. Alas, Rome shudders and is no more. New York skyscrapers crash into each other as people run like fire-ants. London, blackened by fires; no one alive to run. Foretold in scriptures of every religion...Armageddon has arrived. Mounted horsemen of the Apocalypse stare down from blackened lands. In unison, their voices cry loudly. "You disobeyed Our God."
