Blackie was a good tough Horse,
He'd go the route, he'd stay the course.
A Horse to ride the River Trail,
Surefooted strength that would not fail.
Breaking trail, or helping Ranger,
Steadfast in the face of danger,
Find the trail in snowy weather,
Stay to camp without a tether.
Quiet pride and temper mild,
Living rich or living wild,
Changing homes like foster child,
Leaving memories in his wake.
Now he stands at Heaven's Gate,
Fields so green and sky so blue,
Forever home, he's young and new,
With friends long lost, so good and true.
His work is done, His soul is blessed.
Bright Angels sing Him to his rest;
Sing, "Blackie Good-Horse was the best".
