Didn't the Angels Cry? by fm wright
Poem of the Month contest entry

When the fullness of the time had come
for Him to step down from His heavenly home;
over the nativity of this sovereign boy
didn't the angels cry out with shouts of joy?

When He was in the wilderness forty days:
for deliverance He did solemnly pray,
and as He was triumphant against temptation
didn't the angels cry out with elation?

After a trial that was clearly a sham,
in which was persecuted a guiltless Lamb;
following which He was cruelly nailed to a cross
didn't the angels cry out over the loss?

Suspended up there in suffering and pain
while those gathered 'round spit on Him with distain
with Him hanging there on the edge of tomorrow
didn't the angels cry out in deep sorrow?

Soldiers and spectators anxiously waiting:
all the time the sinless one they're berating
while they stood about watching the Savior die
didn't the angels with tears of lament cry?

During those dark days that directly followed
as His disciples in self pity wallowed
while He lay there within the bowels of the tomb
didn't the angels cry out in deepest gloom?

When after rising on that bright Sunday morn;
from which the gripping hands of death He'd been torn:
for upon this day of our Lord's resurrection
didn't the angel's cry out with affection?

The time came for Him to leave this world below:
for it was back to heaven He had to go.
When He'd completed His ascension to on high
didn't the angels most euphorically cry?

Author Notes
I wrote this sometime ago and thought it's finally time to post it. My thanks goes out to booklotto for the use of this stunning piece of artwork.
