T'was the day of Thanksgiving and all through the house,
smells of a turkey baking caused watering of the mouth.
The stuffing and cranberry sauce were prepared,
knowing my house guests would soon be here.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but eight black SUVs and one gold Chrysler.
The drivers and passengers were soon at my door
with sumptuous food offerings galore.
Green Bean casserole, corn pudding, pumpkin pie and pecan,
the wondrous Thanksgiving holiday now began.
I exclaimed my delight and we all did hug,
and we sat around the table though it was a bit snug.
Then each one told what they were thankful for,
family, jobs, a home and so much more.
Then prayer and the turkey was carved, passed around,
the talking and laughing made a deafening sound.
It all wound down as evening drew nigh,
all those present exhaled a contented sigh.
Such a wonderful time, but over too soon,
My guests walked to their cars beneath a full moon.
They all drove away as I watched their tail lights,
but I heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight.
"Such a magnificent feast with loved ones so dear,
We can't wait to do it again next year!"
