Though no one warned or told me reasons why,
my tresses, long and full, were cut today,
and as they chopped, the trimmings dropped and lay,
unsympathetic hands swept them away.
How long it took to grow, I cannot say,
but many years have gone and passed me by.

will recognize me in my new array -
this maple tree that’s clipped into Bonsai.
And here I stand alone, left high and dry
