A Vers Beaucoup Potlatch Challenge
Preserve Our Future by June Sargent

Warm spring day.  Month of May.  Children play
in the hay.  World feels right - not a blight
in sunlight.  Darkness falls. Behind walls
evil calls.  Guns are packed.  Bullets stacked.

In the dark, poachers park. No dogs bark.
Leave no mark. Maintain stealth, think of wealth -
not their health. They're just cats. Rugs and mats.
Furry hats. Just a game. Feel no shame.

Hides adored. Hunters hoard. Laws ignored.
Tigers roared in the night. Feel their plight.
Join the fight. Yes, we must maintain trust.
For what's just, take a stand. Lend a hand.

Let's conserve and preserve. Cats deserve
a reserve. To be fair, we must care
when they're rare. Stop and think - in a blink
they're extinct. Keep our eyes on the prize.

Author Notes
The Vers Beaucoup, a poem for created by Curt Mongold, which is French for "many rhymes". Each stanza consists of four lines with a rhyming word scheme of:

a-a-a-
a-b-b-
b-c-c-
c-d-d
Each rhyme can only use a MAXIMUM of three words. The fourth "a" rhyme carried over to the second line causes enjambment and creates a strong internal rhyming structure.
