Fall becomes winter in a forest
Fall Forest by Pamusart

It's fall in the forest; falling leaves sigh
as whispering winds converge in the sky
Some pattering rain now peppers the trees
and turns into snow as temp'ratures freeze;
A quilt has been sewn with red, orange and white
from soggy remains of Autumn's delight
This dreary dark morning tugs on the wings
of eagles who fly away until spring

When ice on the lakes start covering fish
the eagle can't catch his favorite dish
Since songbirds and squirrels flee to the south,
he'll follow his prey; put food in his mouth
So sad for their loss, the trees start to cry
while barren wet branches wave at the sky
They don't really cry; just shed all their snow
which floats in the air and then lands below

Deserted by now, the voices are gone,
the forest is still amid the gray dawn
A Christmas card beauty stands all alone
Where snowflakes collect, they cover a cone
The colors of winter, black, gray and white
suppress all the hues that hide from the light
But, deep down below the blanket of snow
the seedlings and bulbs have started to grow

When snow starts to melt and spring does arrive,
all life will return and nature will thrive
Until now and then, let's hope for the best
and give our consent for nature to rest
Unable to see the underground sprout,
we pout and we cry for spring to come out
The winter gives time for new life to stir;
ensuring that Spring will want to occur
