A Laminar Rocket Engine by F Scott Hafner
100 Word Flash Fiction contest entry

The rocket is made up of 251 micro-engines. Each engine has a pinpoint fuel injector dead center of the enclosure. Combustion is surrounded by liquid oxygen until the fuel leaves the engine. The majority of combustion occurs outside the engine housings. The outer ring of 128 engines are skewed slightly inward to contain the overall combustion. The next inboard of 64 engines is additionally skewed inward but to a lesser extent. This follows for the rings of 32, 16, 8, 4, and the center engine. This greatly increases efficiency over standard rocket engines. Precision engineering must be increased for success.
