Buried Burdens by easyeverett1

Our burdens buried underneath
Are still until they break the sheath;
When loosed a dagger's cut will keep
Each slice - stiletto thin and deep.

All spark is dark and lost to light
As blackness steals away my sight.
The dreamless peace of sleep has fled
To those with demons to be fed.

I seek no bleak and empty pit,
In fact, I'm free to flee from it,
Yet here in fear I do succumb;
This path of wrath now sounds the drum

That calls my all to hide inside
The dark part of protected pride
Which unconsigned or realigned
Lies buried with the beast entwined.

Awareness leaks out drip to drip
Which further strips away my grip
To where my mind can't even think,
One concrete thought without a drink.

Depression has me by the throat,
This black-dog beast stole notes I wrote
(Inside my head upon this bed)
To give clear sight to things I've said.

But sadness saturates my soul
With broken dreams and broken whole;
Assigned a shrine in muted mind
Deep in its pit so harshly lined.

Now my internal will is weak
And I have lost the strength to seek
The sunny skies that once were bright
As I am left without a light.
