Dance of Death - Macabre
While I'm Sleeping by Kerry Foley Robinson

The music of the wailing souls, in the dark of night,

torment and tangle in my mind, reality's tossed away,

twisting tales into my world, I dance unsettled plight,

a broke recording, not worth storing, in a trance I sway;

They come into my dreams to play, and cause me much dismay

lines are crossed, dimensions lost, some overlap and merge,

"Oh come with me into my tomb, we'll dance the night away,

impurities inspire me, we'll dissolve in cleansing purge."

The decrepit man then takes my hand,

"listen to the melody, echo on my grave,"

I shiver and shrill, in the dark foreboding land,

"Come my dear, the inevitable clear, be brave."

In hesitation struck with fear, I'm stuck with Rigor Mortis,

engulfed in darkness, death has come,

to sing the final chorus,

"The dance is done, I'll take a bow, I've won."

Author Notes
The Danse Macabre (from the French language), also called the Dance of Death, is an artistic genre of allegory of the Late Middle Ages on the universality of death: no matter one's station in life, the Dance Macabre unites all.

The Danse Macabre consists of the dead or a personification of death summoning representatives from all walks of life to dance along to the grave.
