Broken Hearted Bar Boy Blues

certainly, a dive
and I do take the plunge
I flee and pursue
      one and the same

the floor is sandy
  like a beach decimated
      by a hurricane
         and swept       away
sorrowful tears are sticky
               and impede my footfall

people laugh
     though it isn't funny
            anger is misdirected

fault is thought to be
                     somewhere
    perhaps on a winged horse
                 obscured by a cloud
                         chasing the moon

I find a table
    for this is serious
revenge is best
     when drunk
         and      misguided

a barstool
is a precarious throne
and many a King
has overestimated
the pomp of his circumstance

well ... I take out my heart
   placing it on the table
      it beats
         and beats
     it doesn't stop
as though it's in on it

no, there will be no relief
fool
but we'll get our vengeance

libations prod my psyche
and steel my resolve
any question or doubt
dissolves in the applause
of clashing ice cubes

THIS

is what she is

                      missing

                      out on

                      THIS

mercy me, my love
was so true
and YOU

       YOU

shined on harvest moon
            while I swooned

shuffle one-step-shuffle two
                sing a tune
just keep the shot glass
               pyramid growing
my monument of love still due

watch closely darlin'
THIS
is what you did not

             want

here she comes

there was a time--
   the skirt    flowing
      like a        breeze
            through a meadow
            of wildflowers
                   all for me to pluck
                   one at a time

a body
   like rolling hills
        to climb and explore
            as the sun sets

hello
    sounding like a single
                              cello

who am I, you ask

I am ...

she had hair darker than night
emerald eyes that
   chased the sun behind clouds
        for cover
and I know
no other will ever do ...

and you ...

well ...

he was tall
  and all the world
    was mine
      without him saying so
and I know that no arms
will ever hold me like his ...

shall we show them
what they're missing
shall we bring them to their knees

maybe another night
    it's closing

             time

I still have
                my
                      dreams

Author Notes

The even sadder truth is, I left BEFORE closing so I could come home and write this poem. Yep, a broken-hearted WRITING bar boy blues. We are a twisted bunch ...
