Oh, Son, let's take a walk tonight
past fields we've plowed 'neath spacious skies.
Our work is done, time's flexible.
Full moon above and Dipper bright.
That cypress tree and old blue fir
were present there before my birth.
The lilac bush by barn's red door
is now in bloom, perfumes the air.
I'm hearing hooves and seeing dust,
but coming buggy's no surprise.
Your gal's no fool, loves nights like this.
I'll walk alone now if I must.
