I gave my power to others
afraid to speak
afraid to believe
afraid to imagine
I let others define me
Pen me in ink
Pen me in crayon
Pen me in erasable marker
I let their beliefs become mine
Good Catholic girl
Good Wife
Good Mother
I questioned nothing
Knew I deserved pain
Knew I was stupid
Knew my ideas were flawed
Until
I risked total failure
Until
I stood in the middle of my house
Intently searching for myself
Investigating the gifts I was given
Ultimately
My life was a decision
My life was a choice
My life was a promise
And then one day
I lit my own powerline
I spoke with my own voice
I reached for my own happiness
And realized
The world is a better place with me in it
The world enjoys my laughter
The world and I are wonderful
And my powerline
Ignites my soul
invigorates my life
initiates belief in dreams
And I am the owner
of the light switch
