My mother taught compassion, kindness, love.
Kind words can oft times alter hurt to heal.
She taught seek blessings from the one above
and guidance for the fears you daily feel.
She was a beacon in my daily life,
a haven of abiding joy and peace.
My father, knowing life is filled with strife,
taught standing firm would oft times bring release.
He knew the need of work, along the way
and played in all the innings of life's game.
He taught that if you faltered, fell astray
that you would have to shoulder all the blame.
For both, I send my love for lessons taught-
Those lessons freely shown, were never bought.
