And In Death
How beautiful they are in Death!
More so than in Life,
in the perfection
of the spirit.
How they glow in Memory!
Forgotten is any dissonance,
their shining smiles
fill our reveries.
In times of need, Listen!
Can't you hear their soft
voices? Disregarded in Life,
so precious now.
At nightfall, aren't you Weary!
Do you feel that gentle
hand on your brow, soothing
the rigors of the day?
And the hard-gained Wisdom!
Eluding us looking forward,
only visible when we pause
and peer back through the mist.
Let them live in our Hearts!
Let us cherish the precious
memories, and pass on
this heritage!
But imagine if we had no
memories to sustain us?
"We are born lucky. Yes,
we are born lucky!"

Author Notes
This is a devotional to my wonderful parents, long since gone to their reward. I celebrate the devotion, love and wisdom they imparted to a wild, impervious lad who has come to his reckoning.
"We are born lucky. Yes, we are born lucky!" is a quote from Ernest Hemingway's 'The Old man and The Sea.
Thank you, cleo85, for the beautiful photo, "Avalon."
