From far below, notes start to climb.
Although I cannot leave this chair
my mind begins a dance through time.
I share a waltz with Fred Astaire.

Although I cannot leave this chair
as music paints these dreary halls
I share a waltz with Fred Astaire,
whirl past the cracked and peeling walls.

As music paints these dreary halls.
I, in my gown of gold lamé
whirl past the cracked and peeling walls,
lost in the arms of yesterday.

I, in my gown of gold lamé -
the girl they once called, “Petite Fleur,”
lost in the arms of yesterday -
can sneer at age, life’s saboteur.

The girl they once called, “Petite Fleur,”
whose face and form I used to wear,
can sneer at age, life’s saboteur
although I cannot leave this chair.
