I wonder
You ever notice
how snow melts in Spring
'round bases of trees?
They're the first to catch the heat
with their limbs raised to the sky.
I wonder
Is it something else
that causes this reaction
coming from the earth?
Heated life force of the tree,
ready to burst forth with life?
I wonder

Author Notes
I was sitting having coffee and noticed this out my window. Then I drove around and found this to be the case everywhere.
The stanzas are written in a Tanka-like 5-7-5-7-7 format.
