My happy heart just fell apart
Too numb to feel a thing
While waiting for a valentine
The mailman didn't bring
Great sadness soon enveloped me
Because I thought you cared
It would have meant a lot to me
If love and heart you shared
As I sat in my misery
My pup and my best friend
Just placed his head upon my lap
With love that had no end
He brought to me by puppy mail
The sweetest Valentine
A paw print that so touched my soul
And SO expressed you're mine
With every gesture he possessed
My pup sent love to me
And I reciprocated back
With hugs, the same degree
Love isn't just a human thing
It reaches far and wide
And it is found within our pets
When they have loving guides
Don't miss the paw print on your heart
Because love often grows
Inside the furriest of friends
That bear a warm wet nose

Author Notes
This poem was inspired by the photo that accompanies it, The original image was created by MKFlood of FAR. When he posted it he created a challenge for mixed media atrists on the site to embellish the image. I am not only a poet here but also a Mixed Media artist at FAR. I took on his challenge and decorated the hearts with the pup inside. The image here is that collaboration.
ANyone who has a pet knows the special bond between a pet owner and his pet. This poem expresses that special love.
I hope you enjoy both image and poem!
Thanks SO much for stopping by! :o) Helvi
