Henrietta Meets Jumbo by BethShelby

Henrietta Hen's a nosy chick,
as she makes her rounds each day.
She spreads her gossip around the farm
like the farmer spreads his hay.

All the other chickens gather 'round
to hear all the latest news;
like why Roger Rooster crowed so late
when his clock got stuck on snooze.

When tents were pitched by the farm next door,
Henrietta had to spy.
She wandered over to sneak a peek
at the sights that caught her eye.

She knew all about horses and cows
and beasts at home on a farm,
The thing she saw was hard to describe
causing a bit of alarm.

The beast she saw was an elephant.
His four legs resembled trees.
There were two big flaps stuck on his head,
and a nose hung past his knees.

The chickens gathered to hear the news
when Henrietta returned.
But panic spread throughout the farmyard
when they heard what she had learned.

"Let's hope we never get one of those.
You won't believe how he eats.
He vacuums his food up through his nose
and I'm pretty sure he cheats."

"The food he ate would feed us for weeks,
but he sucked it up so quick.
He never left a grain on the ground
'Twas enough to make me sick."

"I hope this circus moves away soon.
I don't like anything there.
We'll starve if we share food with that brute,
he won't leave a speck to spare."
