Atomic bomb tests in Australia.

The Words Are The Same contest entry

Horrific orange flash terrifying
Hellish mushroom cloud rising.
Men stared with unprotected eyes
Blast goggles? More army lies.

Naive men bore the force
Just experimental subjects of course.
Guinea-pig soldiers had no chance
Cancer factor; deadly dance

Broken lives - Army lied
Damage done; family cried
The shatter of lives unlawfully lost
Bill the army for the cost?

Atom bomb test success
Praise the saints, more or less?
Heart of the land dead from exposure
Spare a thought on death's foreclosure.

Author Notes
The Words are the Same contest entry - family, cry, spare, orange, factor, bore, shatter, saint, hell.
The years 1955 - 1963 saw A-Bomb tests carried out by the British. Maralinga, in the Pitjantyara Aboriginal language means "Field of Thunder." 15,000 Australians were involved in the work at three British test sites over twelve years. The sites are stil radioactive today. The innocent soldiers were used as guinea pigs. Cancer is rampant amongst the traditional aboriginal land owners; they are still involved in proceedings for compensation.
I have used aa,bb rhyming scheme and changed cry to cries, hell to hellish, and saint to saints.
