The People wept for rain
Turquoise Mountains by Realist101
A Real Gem of a Poem! writing prompt entry

In canyons of the western sky
A mother for her son, she cried

Behold the Spirit up above
To find and hold a precious love

To save the one she held so dear
From searing sun, its heat too near

Without the droplets, moisture fair
The People parched from drying air

But as they dug in sandstone red
A stone of blue, so rare was said

To bring the clouds that held the rain
To end the drought that caused the pain

And as they wept, their eyes did cry,
A skystone blue fell from the sky

A simple stone that healed the wounds
And brought to them a brand new moon

With luck and courage all around
The People sang, new, happy sound ...

The mother thanks, the Spirit shone,
She wears with pride, the skyblue stone

Author Notes
Turquoise is known for its healing properties. And it is said, that the stone acquired it's stripes from the tears of the Native Americans as they prayed for rain. It is called a "Skystone" for that reason. Thank you for reading ... and to Snookies56 for the loan of this photo of a young Navajo boy.
