Bridge to Fantasy by starkat
The Puente contest entry

~~

Hello again, my favorite gnome;
it's nice to see you made it home.
While you were gone, I traced our roots,
and now know why we're in cahoots.
I think this stuff you'd like to hear,
so snuggle close and lend an ear.
Our roots are wrapped in mystery
while delving deep through history.
From special seeds we've grown since birth,
to link our legacy on earth.
Roots also sip from wishing wells
where musing souls cast magic spells.

~ Our ancient roots entwine through time ~

To build a bridge where children climb
so they can play and sing in rhyme.
This bridge that spans to lands unknown
is also meant for children grown.
From there, they'll hear some stories told
and watch as fantasies unfold.
Beyond this bridge are countless trails
that show the way to fairy tales.
Our lives are stories in the end
that greet each other 'round the bend.
Though roots are part of printed page,
imagination sets the stage.

Author Notes
Thanks Jen for creating this contest and introducing us to this most interesting form.

The Puente poem for this contest must somehow include the artwork provided and conform to the rules for a Puente poem.

Puente is a form created by James Rasmusson. The form has three stanzas with the first and third having an equal number of lines and the middle stanza having only one line which acts as a bridge (puente) between the first and third stanza. The first and third stanzas convey a related but different element or feeling, as though they were two adjacent territories. The number of lines in the first and third stanza is the writer's choice as is the choice of whether to write it in free verse or rhyme. The second stanza is a single line delineated with a tilde (~). This line is a bridge between the two stanzas. There are many examples of Puente poems in the announcement. I chose the one where the center line rhymes with the first two lines of the third stanza.

cahoots ~ informal collaboration; secret partnership
