A Word of Caution by adewpearl

If you should stoop to pick a chanterelle
when mushroom hunting on an autumn day,
beware you don't disturb a place where dwell
a family of mischief-loving fay,
for you don't want to fall beneath the spell
of impish fairies with the tricks they play.
No matter how delectable to eat
no mushroom's worth the cost for one small treat.

Those stories of sweet babies snatched from sleep
and parents who find changelings in their place,
are not just fables of what humans reap
if they invade the fairies' sacred space.
Should you uproot their home the price is steep,
so do not risk what cannot be replaced.
Tread lightly and be cautious when you hunt,
for fay are not good creatures to affront.
