Springtime Poetry contest entry

A gentle breeze
tickled with sun,
a momentary tease,
the season of spring
such a mischieveous one!
One day bright and sunny,
next day gray and bleak,
spring's playful game
of hide and seek.

A long time ago
the secret I found,
spring always hides
underground.
My story, funny yet true,
happened when I was
no more than two.
Learning to walk,
tottering around,
I fell ear first
into a big dirt mound!

Listen, listen,
now what's that sound?
Something is afoot
underground.
My ear to the ground
my face in a pout,
I could hear
sleepy seedlings
stirring, stretching
trying to sprout.

Flinging off
their blankets of dirt,
Pushing, pushing
up, up and out,
tiny green leaves
popping up, up and out
to a chorus of
happy sprout shouts.
