The young’uns laughed, called him ‘pickaninny’
Without control, my temper then did blast
These kids had much to learn
And they must learn it fast
For when children are young
Their ears are itchin’ and burnin’
Their thoughts can be shaped
And they are ready for learnin’
“What’s the great color of the world?” I did ask
And “What color is The Lord?”
“If the rainbow were made of one color,
Would it still be adored?”
“When Christ died for your sins
What color blood did pour out?
Is anyone’s color different?
Let me know now, with a shout!”
Youg’uns need to learn what’s inside them
Not that which only eyes can see
It’s the heart inside and the invisible soul
That to truth and beauty is the key
