A monster lives just down the street,
he has no horns or glowing eyes,
in fact he looks a lot like us,
clever facade, a great disguise.
There's many of them, all around,
both men and women everywhere,
inflicting pain, verbal abuse,
without a conscience, they don't care.
A monster who lives all alone,
will slink around so please take heed,
a neighbor, teacher, family friend,
could hide a twisted mind, indeed.
A monster can be anyone,
who hides their face behind a mask,
somebody you won't recognize,
until they've done their gruesome task.
They'll gain your trust that they'll betray.
perhaps, in your town, they now roam,
or maybe just in the next room,
a monster living in your home.
I wish they had horns, glowing eyes,
we'd recognize them right away.
They dwell in shadows, corners dark,
but smile bright in light of day.
Monsters in movies and tv,
can't harm us, just give us a fright.
But human monsters are far worse,
they walk among us day and night.
A human that's without a soul?
No empathy, that's how they are,
are monsters made or are they born?
Nobody really knows so far.
