Crawling by Bill Schott
100 Word Flash Fiction contest entry

Burrowing through the soft soil, Abotabo could feel the pressure above, pushing down on him.

Time had been left behind, as the darkness and constriction had become the world; the horizontal digging and crawling was now the reason to exist.

How it had begun or would end, and why he did this at all, had been forgotten.

Basil noticed the slight ripple in the sand. He assumed that something was maneuvering beneath the surface and heading to the oasis pool.

A small wave appeared in the pool.

Abotabo noticed a ripple in the sand, which was now Basil, endlessly crawling.
