Faith of My Own by BethShelby
My Faith Poetry contest entry

My Mother’s faith was strong enough,
doubt never entered in
I trusted Mother wouldn’t lie;
to lie would be a sin.

Because her faith was very strong,
I claimed it as my own,
but as I grew, it seemed I knew
her faith was hers alone.

God understands we have the right
to question what is real.
Another’s faith is not our own.
We can't rest in their zeal.

The Spirit works upon each heart
revealing what we need,
and miracles may pave the way
to plant faith’s precious seed.

God’s word alone may be enough
To cause the seed to grow
But each of us is given things
to make sure that we know.

The gift of faith is powerful;
God’s mercies will unroll.
If our belief is strong enough,
then faith will make us whole.

Author Notes
When we're young, it is natural to go along with whatever our parents, who we tend to trust, tell us, but as we grow, we question things and need to develop our own faith. I questioned everything, including God, and he had to show me things for which there was no logical or scientific explanation to help me realize my own faith. Not everyone needs that, but I believe if we're struggling, we get what we do need. It is up to us to exercise our faith so that it strengthens to the point we will all experience miracles.
