Cold clear night, the band played
Played music for passengers free
Free forever, ghosts danced, waltz fade
Fade into the deep waters of the cold sea
Sea did slowly swallow the unsinkable
Unsinkable Titanic, iceberg split her side
Down to the bottom of the sea; unthinkable
Unthinkable to passengers who rode the tide
Drown in locked quarters, third-class frown
Frown and scream to break their chains
Chains stopped their escape to live, not drown
Drown, now ghosts would batter with no pains
Pains belong to the living, ghosts merely look
Look at rusting locks, their screams
Screams from wealth and third class, now a book
Book that has been written so many times, beams
Beams from ghostly faces, they just look.

Author Notes
Contest entry for Rhyming Poem. The sinking of the Titanic in 1912 still remains a fascinating wreck, a ghostly wreck.
The RMS Titanic hit an iceberg which ripped open all her water-tight doors. She sank in the cold, clear waters of the North Atlantic with the loss of over 1,000 passengers. Skeletons have been found, one was chained to the wreck.
