Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Madness overcame me ...
With a 1-2-3-4 by Tom Horonzy

The craziness attempted here, was to have four columns arranged
with the first containing one syllable, the second with two,
followed with three in the third column until the last held four.
Didn't work, so I improvised. The dashes denote where
the columns should have been

I-began-this journey-trying to see
If-I am- as clever-as I wanna be
To-capture-the essence-of fleeting thoughts
Or-could this-exercise-be all for naught.
A-counting-madness came-upon my sleep
Thus-ending-me adding-dozens of sheep.
And-still the-computing-continued on
'Til-sunlight-appeared in-a pearly dawn.
This-is fun-least for now-with the sun low
But-as it-rises-how-high will it go?
Jump-sheep, jump-a record-is near at hand
Clear-the fence-to nourish-on verdant land.
As-I stay-steadfastly-asleep on hay
Which-was the-reason-I counted any way.
And-as the-sun arises-my eyes open wide
With-too lil'-rest-I'm fit to be tied.
I-began-this journey-trying to see
if-I could-be kin to-Fibber McGee.

Author Notes
My mother had us watch this Polish immigrant, week after week, and after doing so I couldn't sleep, and one night I tried counting sheep, just as this musician began any rendition with "a 1-2-3-4!" He became a millionaire.
