The smallest dumplin' in the stew

hid near the back and bottom too

'til all were fed and dinner through

then floated up as if on cue

A moment there without a care

on her back just floating there

lost for now her past dispair

calmly breathing quite unaware

The approaching of a big buffoon

He stabbed and scooped and swirled his spoon

sure that drop would his be soon

he fished around the soup lagoon

She ducked and darted, dived to the deep

An urgent ploy to freedom keep

with ladle used to bottom sweep

the ogre seached for dough to reap

The contest raged hunter and prey

with flashing spoon and soupy spray

Impatience grew, turned to dismay

when others turned to looked his way

Looking crazy standing there

in soaking shirt and soup in hair

with mumbled words, demented stare

he skulked away to angry glares

Back to the top the victor bobbed

As the oaf left feeling robbed

defeated by that doughy blob

it was the brut now left to sob

We learn from this familiar play

A David-Goliath type foray

That will and heart still wins the day

If determined courage on display
