This morning I made you laugh a little and smile
As I licked you on the chin.
I couldn't eat my dog food
And so I laid in your lap and lovingly licked your hand.
You carried me in and out of the house that day in warm and safe arms
When I needed to go out.
And when we came back inside again, as I laid in your lap not feeling well
I knew that this might be my last day with you, and you also had some doubt.
You were sad that day when we got to the vet
As I laid in your lap waiting for him to come in and see what we could do.
Soon he came to take me back to surgery
And reassured us that I would be back home soon.
I didn't have the strength to make it through surgery
They told you that my heart was beating way too fast.
They couldn't get my heart to slow down to finish the surgery
And so the hours that we had spent together that day had been our last.
I'm in heaven now watching over you....
I'm in heaven, healthy and playing in such a beautiful place.
And yes, dogs go to heaven too
Because of God's wonderful grace.

Author Notes
It made me sad writing this because we had lost our Boston Bull Terrier named Angel about 8 years ago. She was such a loving and wonderful companion to us. But by writing this, it also gives me comfort knowing that she is in heaven with Jesus. I listed this in the family category, because she was just like one of our kids, she was part of the family.
